Volunteer Opportunity - President

Sumo Canada is looking for talented and motivated candidates to fulfill key roles in the Organization. The volunteer role description below is for the role of President. Please read the description carefully and, should you be interested, send your resume before the deadline.

ROLE TITLE:  PRESIDENT

NUMBER OF OPENINGS: 1

TIME COMMITMENT: 3 hours weekly, on average

TYPE OF POSITION: This is a volunteer position

TERM: Minimum 1 year commitment

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The President will act as the Chief operating officer (CEO) and will be responsible for the organization’s operations. They will work closely with the Board of Directors to execute the organization’s strategic plan.

The President shall bear the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chair and the Board of directors in shaping the Organization’s vision, setting priorities, and advancing policies.
  • Develop an annual plan and budget, including goals and performance measures, for Board approval.
  • Keep the Board informed through reports on strategic progress and key organizational issues, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Annually, certify compliance with regulatory requirements and Sumo Canada internal policies.
  • Provide quarterly updates on breaches, lawsuits, and material risks affecting the Organization.
  • Oversee the administration and management of Sumo Canada.
  • Adhere to Sumo Canada’s By-laws and internal policies

The President’s performance will be reviewed annually. Following each performance review, the Director may receive a commendation or reference letter, recognizing their contributions and supporting them in future volunteer or employment opportunities.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Ideal candidates will have a passion for sports development, strong leadership skills, and a deep commitment to advancing sumo wrestling in Canada.

Other requirements include:

  • Understanding of the governance structure of not-for-profit organizations
  • Proven organizational and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in productivity software and tools such as Google Docs and Google Drive
  • Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Discord
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of French, a plus
  • Experience in not-for-profits or charities, a plus
  • Experience as a board director or executive, a plus
  • Experience in organized sports, a plus
  • Experience in fundraising campaigns, a plus
